Holland Historical Society

The former Holland Congregational Church is located on an open hillside of farmland and serves as the home of the local historical society. It is currently open seasonally and by appointment. The collection includes antiques from the late 1800s and early 1900s that have been donated from local families – clothing, home goods, tools, photographs, diaries and letters. Many changes have taken place in the display areas under the guidance of new President Karon Thibault. Many thanks to Larry Judd, Lionel Thibault and Glenn Judd for all of their work to replace siding on the office building. We appreciate you!!

Events have included an annual dinner and annual church service (in honor of the buildings historic use) and they have an annual Open House event. In recent years active members have thinned out. We welcome anyone interested in the History of Holland to join us. We meet monthly during the Spring - Fall. The next meeting is to be decided.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE!!!!!! The officers recently held a meeting to try to decide how to move forward. Our President, Karon Thibault has resigned due to health issues. As she said, not something that will kill her, just make her miserable. This being said - that leaves us with no one at the helm.We are once again at a crossroads - no leader and a severely decaying church. We will face hard questions - is it worth putting close to $100,000 into this old building. And if so, where does the money come from??? The steeple is rotting, the siding is peeling/rotting, there is a hole in the soffit - the windows that were rebuilt several years ago (the stained glass ones facing the office) are once again in dire condition. Also, the sill on the back of the building has some rot.In 2025, it was discovered that the back wall of the office was rotten. It needed extensive repair and luckily we volunteers that were able to provide the labor. We also do not have enough active members - people that can and will physically be present for events. We really wanted to resurrect our Old Home Day in August, but there are not enough bodies to plan and tend to the event. We have planned another meeting for March 19 at 5:00 at the Holland town office. If you have ideas or simply want to be more active - PLEASE step forward. You can respond to this email:hollandhistoricalsoc@gmail.com, or show up at the March meeting. As someone that has served twice as President and as Treasurer for many years - I just don’t know how we can keep going, but I hate to see the building go back to where it was when the Historical Society was formed in 1973.I know this is a lot, but we need help!! If you aren’t interested, maybe you know someone that may be….. We are a 501(c)3 organization. Our EIN is 22-2532445. If you care to make a donation, you can mail it to Holland Historical Society 120 School Rd Derby Line VT 05830 Sincerely, Diane Judd (on behalf of the Holland Historical Society) Holland Historical Society
